Earlier this summer I share with you the Wee-Source: tinywords - a free international, daily magazine of haiku and micropoetry.
I also shared that during the month of August they were accepting submissions for their 20th anniversary issue.
Well, once again, I took the plunge and submitted three tinyword poems. This was my fifth attempt since 2013 to crack this wee non-paying market.
And for the 5th time, I was wee-jected.
Am I sad?
Nah. It comes with the territory. You win some (get acceptances), you lose some (get rejected).
Will I try again?
You betcha! They can't get rid of the mighty wee Bridget Magee!
A wonderful side effect of my wee-jection is that this week YOU get a poetic wee-ward*! Actually 3!
*For fun I paired my poems with some public domain images I found on Pixaby.

I can totally relate to that bee! Being wee-jected doesn't sound too bad...I may borrow that if you don't mind :-) Glad you are going to keep trying!
Ha! You make me smile so big with all this wee wordplay. They can't get rid of the mighty wee Bridget Magee, for sure! xo
Thanks for the wee-wards this week. Sorry about the wee-jection, but of course no one can keep wee Bridget Magee down. Have a good weekend!
I love that your brought your own sense of humor to these, Bridget, & that word "bumbling" is perfect! "Wee-ward" on!
That's right, keep trying! If rejections stopped writers, there'd be no writers. I love the word bumbling and that photo of the carpenter bee bumbling.
Love your tenacity and 'stickability' Bridget. Like the Japanese saying- Fall down eight times, stand up nine.
Bridget, humor is a great medicine to keep moving wee-ward. Your resilience is going to keep you moving on to more wee-wards. Would you like to offer your 1st wee-image poem for my summer gallery?
Thanks, Tabatha! I like that you'd want to borrow my wee-jection experience/new spelling. Anything for a friend. :)
Thanks, Irene! Your comment makes me smile a wee bit bigger today too. :)
Thanks, Jama! Being of wee stature, I've always been a wee bit tenacious - for better or worse. ;)
Thanks, Linda! 'Bumbling' describes me a wee bit too now that I think about it. Your comments are always a 'wee-ward'. :)
Thank you, Janice! Pretty much all we can do is write-on - even when we bumble. :)
Thank you, Alan! I like the way the Japanese think - I'll stand up no matter what knocks me down. No other option for wee ol' me. :)
Thank you, Carol for your encouragement! Yes, I'd love to be included in your summer gallery. Just let me know what you need me to do. :)
Your "wee-jection" is our "wee-ward"! That bumbling bee is my favorite--so clever! Love your wordplay, Bridget, and your resilience.
Their loss is our gain! I love these wee words and the images you paired them with.
Oh - how fortunate we were to have your weelightful wonders with us. I cannot decide which I love more; your corn husks or your carpenter bees.
Hooray for your persistence (and for sharing with us)! I love "hot button issue!" Fun many-meaning word choice.
Thanks, Molly! I'm nothing if not resilient - in all aspects of life. ;)
Aw, Kay, thank you! Someday I'll crack that tinyword market, but until then, my blog weaders get wee-warded. ;)
Thanks, Kat! Love your "weelightful" play on wee words, too. It's contagious (in a good way!)
Thank you, Mary Lee! It has been the summer of "hot button issues" on many levels. Funny (in a not funny, but actually quite itchy way) houses/apartments don't come with screens on their windows in Switzerland. If you want screens, you literally make and install them yourself. (expats are usually the ones who do this)
Sorry for the rejection. I like how you are taking it in stride. I have a ton of mosquito bites from my daily morning walks. It's a hot button itchy issue for me.
These are fabulous! I think I remember making corn-husk dolls as a project in some class or camp, but I mostly remember making yarn dolls as a kid. Your poem brought up great memories...and cheers on the rejections. I hate them and celebrate them at the same time. They are proof I'm submitting, trying, getting out there...I got a very encouraging but extra painful rejection last week, b/c I thought it was going to be an acceptance (for a picture book) from the first few lines of the email. Sigh...Keep fighting!
One of my favorite phrases, 'You betcha." I'm sorry about the rejections....but deLIGHTed with the spunk of your tiny poems. It's tough to pick a favorite....but that hot button issue made me giggle.
Send an image poem of what summer is like in your locale during quarantine time. You could send the bee poem if you like. Add your name and location (Switzerland) larger than it is on these poems so that it can be seen. The image should be 450-500 pixels. Send it to me via Twitter at hashtag, #EmbraceableSummer and add @cvarsalona. You can also send it to my email if you like. Can you also send me your twitter handle? Thanks, Bridget.
What a wee-wonderful spirit you have. I join all here already in congratulating your wonderful tenacity and perseverance to keep going! Love the "corn husk dolls, especially!
Thank you, Margaret! Those pesky mosquitoes are the worst! Sending you itch-relief vibes. :)
Thank you for sharing your encouraging/painful rejection story, Laura! The fact that YOU get rejected at all, with your extraordinary talent and success, actually heartens me. Rejection is a fact of life and the only way to get to our goals is through I suppose. Thanks for your kind and encouraging words. :)
Thanks, Linda! May you avoid this particular hot button issue for the rest of summer. Mosquitoes suck (see what I did there?)
Thanks, Michelle! I can't imagine life (on every level, not just publishing goals) without tenacity - the alternative is unacceptable. I appreciate your encouragement. :)
Hi Carol, I sent you 2 poems via email. Hopefully they work for your needs. :)
