You Just Wait: Powerpack Poem 3 - Things I Have Tried Out For + Poetry Friday

I am back again with another poem inspired by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong's  newest book, You Just Wait - A Poetry Friday Power Book. Today I am sharing the poem I wrote inspired by the Powerpack 3 prompt: Things I Have Tried Out For (prose poem). (Powerpack Poem 1 is here. Powerpack 2 is here.)
Things I Have Tried Out For:
1. class treasurer (it was good that I didn't get elected because I am terrible at math)
2. 5th grade basketball team (I didn't know how to play)
3. all girl Catholic high school cheerleader

Bad CARma

So this happened last week... Daughter #1 was driving. Thankfully she is OK. So was the other driver. Our car and our insurance rates? Not so much.

Fifty is Nifty + Poetry Friday

Yesterday was my birthday...my 50th birthday. I am grateful to be able to celebrate another successful trip around the sun - albeit with a little more gray hair.

This week we are celebrating poetry at The Miss Rumphius Effect. Join us!

Jet Lag Is a Drag

Trying to recover from jet lag from our Germany trip. If this is the price I have to pay for a wonderful trip, I'm OK with it. Well. Worth. It.

Until Next Time...

We have been in Germany this past week. What. An. Amazing. Experience. Our only hope is that we can return...permanently?

*Translation help from Patrick Sander - any mistakes are solely mine because I get confused... a lot. :o)

You Just Wait: Powerpack Poem 2 - Numbers

I am back with another poem inspired by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong's  newest book, You Just Wait - A Poetry Friday Power Book. Today I am sharing the poem I wrote inspired by the PowerPack #2 prompt: Numbers (number poem). After writing a phone number down the left side of the page I wrote a poem using the same number of words  in each line as the number in the phone number.

Over the next several weeks I will be continue to respond to the writing prompts with a poem in the style detailed in the book. Again, I highly recommend this book for young writers (and writers who are young at heart ;).

Found Poetry - Whelk Wisdom

Last weekend I was privileged to attend the PFA Day / WWU Poetry Camp in Bellingham, WA. Holy-wow it was amazing! On Friday night the indefatigable poet-extraordinaire Robyn Hood Black  led a Found Poetry workshop. So. Much. Fun. Robyn expertly and gently guided us through the exercise until we ended up with poetic pieces of art - even I managed to create something in my sleep deprived fog! Below is the tiny poem I "found" on a vintage flash card provided by Robyn: (edited with more ink dabs so it would make sense after I actually had a full night's sleep ;)

Here is the poem in a larger format so you can see the few words more clearly:

Check out Robyn's wonderful etsy Literary Art Boutique called artsyletters where you can find something for everyone - including yourself!

This week's Poetry Friday roundup is being hosted by the fabulous Violet Nesdoly who I was lucky enough to meet in person at the Poetry Camp celebration. So fun to meet online poetry friends in person!

You Just Wait: Powerpack Poem 1 - Today I Am

Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong have done it again! Their newest book, You Just Wait - A Poetry Friday Power Book is inspiring - so inspiring that reading it has made me excited to participate in the exercises and encourage you to do the same. Over the next several weeks, in random intervals, I will be responding to the writing prompts with a poem in the style detailed in the book. I highly recommend this book for young writers (and writers who are young at heart ;).
