Unless schools are air conditioned, and in NH, hardly any are, then it would indeed be cruel! How much learning is possible when children and teachers are dripping with sweat?
Tucson schools are starting earlier and earlier, but in the district's defense my girls get over a week off in October and a little more than 2 weeks at Christmas. Both of these times of year are MUCH better weather-wise than summer in the desert. Enjoy your last few weeks, Linda! = )
A cruel universe indeed! Hope your girls are getting in the swing of the new school year. Do they get out very early or is this an attempt to lessen the summer slide and move closer to year-round school?
Thanks, Buffy! My girls had a good first day yesterday - the verdict is out on today, but I think it will be a great year. They get out the third week in May - somewhat early, but the fall break and extend Christmas vacations make the early start time necessary. = )
Bridget, your limerick was delightful. The voice of a child was loud and clear. Cannot imagine that school starts so early. Long Island schools start on September 2nd this year.
July 31st is earlier. Some of the Denver suburbs start with kids this week. In Denver, only about half of our buildings are air conditioned and temperatures on the second and third floor were approaching one hundred degrees, so last year they moved us back a week. Kids still have three more weeks.
Crazy early start date this year, Monica! But my daughters and I all survived...and maybe enjoyed ourselves, too. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. = )
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Carol. I'm glad to hear that your district learned from last year's experience and made adjustments. Luckily, ALL school in Tucson have AC. = )

I'm sorry, but that WOULD be cruel and unusual punishment. Yes, indeed. As it is, I can hardly believe we're just 3 weeks away!
Sadly, I saw a few people tweet today saying that they were starting on Monday. Wonder why? Funny, Bridget. We have a few weeks left!
Thanks, Michelle! Unfortunately it is what my girls endured yesterday - first time they've started in July! = )

True that, Diane! Luckily everywhere in Tucson is air conditioned - most especially the schools. Thanks for stopping by! = )
That is where we are headed, I'm afraid. We start next Tuesday.

Enjoy your last few days off, Margaret! Hopefully you have some vacations sprinkled throughout the year. = )

Noo! Not July 31st! Love your limerick, Bridget.

Ugh, that is cruel!
That's actually not too far from the start dates around here -- mid-August. Ugh! Fun limerick!

Thank you, Carol! When we lived in Wisconsin for a few years the start date was always after Labor Day - it was the law. AZ, not so much. = )

It sure felt that way, Ruth! But now that my girls are settling in to the school year the anticipation (and dread) is over. = )
Thanks, Karen! Seems to be variation on start times from all over the US. So interesting. = )
First Day Blues! I can definitely sympathize. Next week it is for me. :)
Thanks, Myra! Have a great school year! = )
