Ah, yes, the teacher will be so please to find that the backpack is so easily zipped! I think I've done that packing for a trip before - later finding I had nothing I needed! But the suitcase was a breeze to carry!
Love the title, Bridget :-) Sometimes we've had that on the opposite end -- when the kids get home and they've left everything they need in their locker!
Thank you, Donna! In my teaching days I was always amazed by what the kids did to avoid taking home their books - copying pages of math problems! Regarding suitcases - with the weight/size limits on airlines it's a wonder we can bring anything! Happy New Year!
Thanks, Liz! I have the two extremes with my daughters - one who over stuffs her backpack to the point that I worry about her back and the other who purges, but is constantly lacking what she needs. There has to be a happy medium. =)
And this is precisely why Miranda's backpack died halfway through the school year, thank you very much! It's a wonder these kids don't all grow up hunchbacked, carrying all that extra weight around. (Neither of my kids' schools have lockers either. Hummph.)
Thanks, Diane! Chiropractors probably see a lot of these cases! I wonder what the long term effects are for carrying an overstuffed backpack. Not good, I'm sure.
I can relate, Michelle! Last year, we went through 3 backpacks with my one daughter. This year we picked a higher quality backpack and the stitching has held well...so far. I wonder if someone has studied this generation of kids and the effects of their heavy backpacks. Worrisome.
Ha--a great solution (I always worried about my kids carrying backpacks that weighed as much as they did--but soon (in some places already) an ipad will replace that stack of books.)
I witnessed a different version of this dilemma recently. One of my devoted Rick Riordan-Harry Potter-Amulet series readers couldn't get his backpack zipped because he had too many books he wanted to take home to read! YAY!
I agree with Mary Lee -- it's always more fun to squeeze in books for pleasure reading than books for homework! That would certainly put a twist on the end of your poem!
Hi there Bridget, looks like everyone is gearing up for school. We are also suffering from back-to-school blues here in Singapore. :) Love the poem! :)

Ha ha - and this was especially fun to read coming straight from Laura's (AuthorAmok Laura) post. Happy New Year, Bridget!
Very funny, Bridget, something for many teachers to post, I think!

Hah! So much fun -- a poem both teachers and students will love. :)
I have kids who think like this in my classes! :)
Well done! to you and your unpacker!

Thanks, Robyn! You're right, Laura's poem/post compliments mine nicely...the second "back to school" season. Love it! Happy New Year to you, too!
Thanks, Linda! Both as a parent and former teacher I have witnessed this too often. =)
Thanks, Tabatha! I feel like my older brings everything in her backpack despite her locker and my younger one want her's "easy to zip". =)
Thanks, Jama! I've lived the three perspectives of this poem as a kid who did it a time or two, as a teacher and a parent who has witnessed it. =)
I did, too, Tara! And one at home, also. And they think we don't notice. =)

So cute, and my chiropractor would love this solution to a common problem of student visitors to her office.

great poem, Bridget. Hope all of your backpacks are lite.
Fun poem and clever kid! Hope the teacher thinks so too.
Ha!

Thanks, Buffy! An iPad would really lighten the load! =)
Thanks, Joy! I try to keep my purse backpack light, but my writing journal weighs it down - in a good way. =)
Thanks, Violet! Kids are always thinking...and teachers understanding...most of the time. =)
Yay is right, Mary Lee! This is the best reason to have an overstuffed backpack - so you can read! =)

Your poem is right on, Bridget, and it describes MANY of my middle school students' backpacks. I don't know how they carry them around all day.
Yes, Keri, squeezing in pleasure reading books is only time to have an overstuffed backpack. Maybe a revised ending is in order. =)
Thank you, Myra! I think "back-to-school blues" is universal...especially after a break! Thanks for stopping by! =)
Thanks, Linda! It is a wonder that kids don't have more aches and pains than they do...but I guess time will tell if there is long term repercussions.
