I soul searched
and researched
to get my resolutions right.
Eat healthy!
Be wealthy!
I've tried with all my might.
January's ending,
my resolve is bending -
looks like there won't be a "new" me.
I'll keep my pudgy core
and probably stay poor -
I resolve now to just be happy.

Boomerang Smiles
When you flash your pearly whites
don't be surprised
by what comes your way -
another smile...super sized!

Monday Morning
Monday mornings
always feel
colder
darker
earlier.
It's harder
to get up on
Monday mornings
than on any
other
day of the week.
But Monday mornings
are also
a clean slate,
full of possibilities,
and
full of promise
for the rest of the week.
Thank goodness
for
Monday mornings -
the gateway to
the week.

Ninja Kitty Alarm Clock
Kitty perks,
jerks,
and attacks my toes.
Kitty frisks,
whisks,
and tickles my nose.
Kitty creeps,
leaps,
as I try to doze.
"I guess it's time to get up..."

Pink Striped Socks
My tootsies stay warm
through this winter storm
in my pink striped socks.
I slide down the hall -
slip-slide but not fall
in my pink striped socks.
Curled up on the couch,
each foot in its pouch
in my pink striped socks.
I enjoy each day
in my unique way
in my pink striped socks.

Daddy's Glasses
Daddy wears his reading glasses
on a cord around his neck.
If he doesn't have them,
printed words look like specks.
Sometimes he forgets where they are -
"Where are they? What the heck?"
You should see his face when I point out
that they're hanging around his neck.

Mama's Helper?
I sort laundry into piles,
by size, not by color.
Our clothes are now blue-gray,
the shade of denim, only duller.
I help around the house,
Mom likes it, too.
Except when she doesn't -
like when I dye the laundry blue.
Now when I offer to help Mom,
she gives her head a shake.
"I've got the laundry covered,
go help your Daddy rake."

PEACE
Play fair...
Elicit kindness...Always be respectful...
Celebrate differences...
Embrace each other...
My Poochy Pal
I have a wee pup,
a fuzzy pup,
a poochy pal of brown.
I have a squat pup,
a pudgy pup,
who follows me around.
Full Moon Tonight
Full moon
shining bright tonight.
Fills my room
with too much light.
I wish I may,
I wish I might,
dim the moon -
it's just too bright!

Down on Clowns
Clowns make me frown
when they are around.
The big floppy shoes,
the wild rainbow hair,
the creepy white face,
give me a scare.
If you are a clown,
please don't come to town.

Coyote Induced Insomnia
In the middle of the night
coyotes
are
yelling,
yipping,
and screeching.
In the middle of the night
they sound like
a child
wailing,
weeping,
and screaming.
In the middle of the night
the coyotes roam,
the child sleeps,
but Mom is awake,
listening.

Wonderful Wind
Way up high,
or down below,
all around,
the wind does blow.
It keeps kites aloft,
helps the laundry dry.
Whether strong or soft,
loose leaves will fly.

Thinking Outside the Backpack
My backpack's stuffed,
it will not zip.
Too many books,
it's gonna rip.
Out goes Math,
my English book, too.
Science stays home,
it zips - phew!
My backpack's flat,
super easy to zip.
Won't teacher be proud?
I'm smart as a whip!
it will not zip.

Hair Day
Long hair,
short hair,
straight or curly.
French braids,
pig-tails
can look girly.
Wash it,
rinse it,
blow it dry.
Brush it,
smooth it,
snarls bye-bye.

Love Knows No Borders
Around the corner,
I met a foreigner.
Around the bend,
he's now my friend.
Around the block,
we walk and talk.
Around the world,
our love unfurled.

Three Alarm Sleep
Rise and Shine!
I can't go to bed,
I'm not even sleepy.
I can't go to sleep,
everything is creepy.
What was that thunk?
Did you hear it?
I can't see it,
but I fear it.
*Deep breath in...*
I try to think of only good thoughts.
puppy licks...warm sunshine...Mom and Dad hugs...the smell of pine...
*Deep breath out...*
I try to relax my tummy knots.
"Rise and shine, my little sunshine!"
I can't wake up,
I'm still so sleepy.
I love my room,
nothing is creepy.
I'm not even sleepy.
I can't go to sleep,
everything is creepy.

Slow Who Am I?
I'm squishy,
soft,
and hard.
I slime,
slide,
and hide.
I'm sun sensitive,
salt allergic,
and prolific.

and hard.
I slime,
slide,
and hide.

Loose Tooth

My tooth is loose,

Thooth Fairy will sthoon pthay.

Return to Reality
Home from vacation
with a ton of laundry.
Nothing clean to wear,
I'm in a quandary.
with a ton of laundry.
Nothing clean to wear,
I'm in a quandary.
I Resolve
This New Year
I resolve
to grow, learn,
and evolve.
I'll stay me -
only sweeter.
Do as I'm told
and be neater.
