Mom Drives ME Crazy

Mom: (sharp intake of breath)
Me: That scares me to death!

Mom: SLOW DOWN!
Me: Can you not frown?

Mom: (silently gripping door handle tight)
Me: Wow, your knuckles are white!

Mom: I'll drive home from here.
Me: But you have nothing to fear!

Mom: (heavy sigh) Fine, I'll try to stay calm.
Me: Thanks? (I hope I survive driving with Mom)

Plaque Attack

The foaming stick
enters
the deep, dark cave
boldly.

It moves
over and around
the pearly white soldiers
standing in a row.

The scent of
mint
is pungent.

The pale yellow enemy
is scrubbed furiously
until it has been
subdued
for the day.

Then the stick
retreats to its
battlestation
while
a flood of fluid
moves through the cave,
removing
the final foamy traces
of battle.

Wee Wednesday "Weader": I'm a Duck!

Inside
my egg,
cramped wings
and legs.

I lie
and wait,
not sure
my fate.

Peck - peck
a crack.
Look out,
stand back!

With one
big burst,
I hatch
beak first.

Wet and
soggy,
wobbly,
groggy.

To eat
I peck,
I stretch
my neck.

Water
I drink -
Uh-oh
I stink.

I waddle
to walk,
I peep
to talk.

I swim
and glide -
Whoa,
a slide!

I have
good luck.
Look at me
I'm a duck!

Ginormous  thank you to today's "Weader", Benedict Turtle Cumberduck, our resident (for the moment) duck!
And huge thanks to JOE UHLIK for his mad video editing skills. (email me for the musical version of this video - it's worth a watch AND listen).

Chillin'

I enjoy
the AC
chill,
 but not so much
the
electric
bill.

Memorial Day

Today
we remember
those who served
and paid
the ultimate
price.
We
remember
their
sacrifice.

Annual Affliction

Afternoon
thermal gusts
usher in
Seasonal Sloth Syndrome.

No cure
until autumn.

Terrible Tapping

Woodpecker bangs
his pointy head -
incessant tapping
forces me out of bed.

Driving Mom Crazy

Next street,
make a right.
Why do you
turn so tight?

Slow down,
light is red.
Stop before
we are dead!

Stay straight,
merge faster.
Please avoid
a disaster!

Teaching child
how to drive -
I hope that
I survive.

School's Out for Summer

Last day of
sitting in school.
Time for the
swimming pool!

Splish and splash,
dive and dunk -
I wash away
my school funk.

Wee Wednesday "Weader": My Ukelele

My ukulele
Has a lovely sound.

Want to hear me play?
Please stick around.

I finger the chords,
Many songs I strum.

When I feel like it
I sometimes hum.

I like to play softly
Or extremely loud.

Today I play for you,
My adoring crowd.

Massive thank you to this week's Wee Wednesday "Weader" Lena for sharing her mad ukelele skills!

Road to Publication

I try,
I fail.
Rejection
In the mail.

With words
I play.
New hope,
New day.

Escape Plan

Up a tree
lizard will flee
if danger's near -
you or me.

Two Speed Pup

Zip,
Zoom,
Pup races
Around the room.

Grunt,
Snore,
Pup's sprawled
Across the floor.

Puppy Potty

A bark
at the back door
is my cue.

My puppy
is done using
her loo.

Batty Bat

Fluttering blur,
Yapping pup.
Flying bat,
Oh my, look up!

Around the room,
A bat flies.
Pup goes crazy,
What a surprise.

Wee Wednesday "Weader": Machine Shop Joe

In cutting fluid
I sometimes bathe,
As I cut metal
On this here lathe.

Turning spindle is where
I want to be -
Metal chips flying
All over me.

Massive thank you to this week's "Weader", Joe, and his expertise cutting metal.
Thank goodness for safety glasses!

Afterschool Treat

Oven beeps,
Cookies are done.
Pouring milk,
Snacktime fun.

Lifetime Of Love

As a baby,
I took a nap
On my mom's
Warm, squishy lap.

As a toddler,
I got whiny.
Mom distracted me
With keys so shiny.

As a kiddo,
My mom was stern.
"No" on repeat
So I would learn.

As a teen,
I got impudent.
Mom redirected
Without incident.

Now I'm an adult
With kids of my own.
When I look back
I have to groan.

How could I have been
So hard on Mom?
Thank goodness her love
Was steady and calm.

Happy Mother's Day!

Dog Self Control

Doggy
stifles her bark,
swallows her yip,
keeps her yapping
under control
when IT walks by.

Tail high,
whiskers twitching
the neighbor's cat
saunters and struts
in front of our window
- in front of doggy -
full of
CAT-titude!

Doggy tries
to hold it in.

Tries to look
the other way.

But she can't.

She unleashes a
cacophony of
yips,
yaps,
barks,
growls -
showing HER attitude
toward cats.

Case for Glasses

With 'em,
I can see.
Without 'em,
Life's fuzzy.

Glasses
Help my sight,
But on my face,
I look a fright.

Wee Wednesday "Weader": Brace Face

My teeth had
A few spaces.
My doc said,
"Time for braces."

Metal bars
On my teeth -
Some on top,
Some beneath.

I must be
Patient and wait.
So my teeth
Will get straight.

Many, many thanks to this week's "Weader", Abby, who has a fabulous smile - with or without braces!

Bloomin' Prickly Haiku

scarlet blossoms bloom
from between needle sharp spines -
blood drips on petals

Technical Difficulties

My computer
coughed,
hiccuped,
burped.

It suddenly
clunked,
buzzed,
chirped.

The screen
flashed -
My data
crashed.

Lost
essay question -
Got
indigestion.

Cinco de Mayo

Today is Cinco de Mayo
En ingles its the fifth of May
A day to celebrate Mexico
And eat guacamole - ole!

Leaf Dance Haiku

miniscule green leaf
shimmies and shakes in time
symphonic spring wind

In Recovery

I went out to walk my dog,
Through the swirling cream-soup fog.
Never mind that I could not see,
My furry pup next to me.
Blind, we strolled along by feel,
From my fall I hope to heal.

Is It Time For Bed Yet?

Eyes watery,
Puffy and red.
Wish it was time
To go to bed.

Sitting in Math,
A subject I dread.
Wish it was time
To go to bed.

Late night texting,
Should've slept instead.
Wish it was time
To go to bed.

Yawning, dizzy,
Throbbing head.
Wish it was time
To go to bed.

"You are dismissed,"
Ms. Tangent said.
Wish it was time
To go to bed.

Final bell rang,
To home I fled.
Wish it was time
To go to bed.

Barely ate dinner,
I feel so dead.
It is now time
To go to bed.

Goodnight!

Wee Wednesday "Weader": "Miss" Understood Mucca

I am so misunderstood.

People judge me
by the size of my movements,
by the size of my body,
by the size of my bark.

But I am more
than my size.

I am sensitive
and sweet.

I am super-duper cute.

Just look at these eyes!

Besides I'm tiny
inside.

People fear me.
When they see me
they go the other way.

All I want to do is play.
All I want to do is play.
All I want to do is play.

Massive thank you to today's "Weader", Mucca!  (And her most helpful people, Matt and Toni!)
I'll play with you, Mucca!
