Ear Worm

On the radio,
We hear a song.
Catchy ditty,
We sing along.

But much later
We hear the tune -
Inside our heads
We continue to croon.

The song won't leave,
It makes us squirm.
We got infected
With an ear worm!

  1. So true! My daughter and I complain about this all the time. Lately when I wake up in the middle of the night I hear the songs from Les Mis in my head. Do they play while I'm sleeping?

    1. Thanks, Jama! It seems all the songs my teenage daughter wants to listen to are "catchy ditties". Thanks for commenting. =)

  3. What a fun poem! Those things really can make you squirm. Right now I'm rehearsing the part of a Lithuanian immigrant, so I've been singing "Kalinka" for days. I feel I should put a bottle on my head. :)

  4. Hi, Bridgette. Your poem would have particular appeal to my two teens. When I get carried away with a song that's stuck in my head, they definitely squirm.

    1. Yes, my teenage daughter, too! It drives her crazy when I sing the same lyrics over and over again - but sometimes it is just stuck. =) Thanks for stopping by!

  5. This reminded me of the ear worm comments on David harrison's blog - was that your inspiration? Fun poem.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Matt. No, I don't remember seeing ear worm comments on David's blog. The inspiration was my 9 year old who kept singing "Shines bright like a diamond" over and over and complained of having a ear worm. I was glad when she started singing something else. =)

  6. Oh my, I've never heard that term for the getting a song in one's head that won't stop! So funny, Bridget.
