Messy Business

Words
swirl,
twirl,
and trickle
down from my
crowded brain,
filtering through
my heart,
transforming
into their purest form.

Finally
they splash out
onto the page
as a
poem.

If I let them.

Writing is messy business.

Wee Wednesday "Weader": Mighty Small

I have a guard dog,
A canine toughy.
He keeps me safe -
Never mind he's fluffy.

He barks really loud,
At the front gate.
If you dare to enter,
His teeth are your fate.

Cover you ankles,
My dog's not tall.
But he is courageous -
A superhero size small.

Huge thank you to this week's Wee Wednesday "Weader", Alexa and her superhero dog, Mason! (Bear makes a special appearance at the end of the video, too :)

Daily Special

Dad on my left,
Mom on my right.
Sandwiched with love,
Hugs so tight.

Poetry Process

I sit
And write.
Pen gripped
Too tight.

I ponder
And think
Of words
That don't stink.

I try
To create
Poems that
Resonate.

Some do,
Some don't.
But give up,
I won't.

Balloon Launch

tip,
tap,
toddler jumps
from Mom's lap

squeals,
squeaks,
toddler runs,
balloon leaks

zip,
zag,
toddler laughs,
balloon sags

At the DMV

We sit on hard chairs,
All day we wait.
We got here early,
But now it's late.

People are packed in,
Every chair is full.
Thought it'd be quick -
Now I'm the fool.

Coop Coup

Chickens strut,
Sharp beaks peck.
Fluffy feathers
Adorn their neck.

Hawk stands still,
Eyeing the hens.
Menu choice
Through precise lens.

Chickens cluck,
Bawk, and squawk.
Especially when
There's a hawk.

Hawk swoops down
From the roof.
A chicken's gone -
Feathered poof.

In the coop,
A shrill bunch.
Get louder still,
When they are lunch.

Wee Wednesday "Weader": Play All Day

All day, everyday
All I want to do is play.

Don't want to sweep the floor -
My chores are such a bore.

Don't want to do my homework -
Every page I go berserk.

Don't want to eat my dinner -
Say OK, I'll be the winner.

All day, everyday,
All I want to do is play.

Big thanks to today's "weader", Sarah, for "playing" with poetry today!

Overpriced Shoes

My mom bought
A pair of shoes,
They cost a lot -
As much as a cruise!

They are fancy,
Like her best blouse,
But Mom only wears 'em
Around the house.

In a hushed whisper
Mom did confide,
"They cost too much
To wear outside."

Wee Wednesday Weader, Smidgey - Ode to my Human

I watch and I wait,
Are you running late?

When will you be home?
Will you bring me a bone?

For you I wag my tail -
You are my alpha male.

Instead of barking I would say -
Happy, happy Birthday!

AAAAAARRRRROOOOOO!

Happy Birthday to both my and Smidgey's favorite human, Joe Uhlik!

A Day By Any Other Name

I'm Mardi Gras.

Also known as
Fat Tuesday.

Fat can be
such a harsh word.

I prefer
chunky,
chubby,
tubby.

Yes, that's it!

Hence forth I shall be
Tubby Tuesday!

Pass the King Bread.

Night Sky Seasoning

Specks and flecks
of light
sprinkled
through the vast darkness.
Salt on a pepper sky.

My Fish Lost Her Swish

I had
One fish,
She swam
Splash-splish.

She ate
And pooped.
Burbled,
Loopy-looped.

But now
She's dead -
I'm sad,
'Nuff said.

Contemplating the Universe

Pin-pricks
of light
peek through
the tattered blanket
of darkness
weaving a tapestry
of
infinite mysteries.

Dog Management

Puppy whimpers
At the back door.
Letting her out and in
Is my hourly chore.

I sit down,
I get up.
Master servant
To my pup.

Fishy Question

If a group of fish
in the sea
are a
school,
are
a group of fish
in a tank
home schooled?

Confusion

Steel grey clouds
conceal
the arc of the sun,
the passage of time,
until I am
confused
whether it is
morning
or
evening.

Good night, dawn?

Good morning, dusk?

Hairy Equation

long hair + eyes = blocked vision = bangs
                                   haircut

Phil Is A Pill

Phil is a pill,
He won't get up
To check his shadow -
Is he washed up?

He wants to sleep
Throughout the day.
Could care less
It's Groundhog's Day.

So Bob fills in,
And dances gung ho.
Spring is coming,
Despite the snow.

Ear Worm

On the radio,
We hear a song.
Catchy ditty,
We sing along.

But much later
We hear the tune -
Inside our heads
We continue to croon.

The song won't leave,
It makes us squirm.
We got infected
With an ear worm!
