Bookcare Reminder

Since at any given time
There's always a bookmark near -
Why must you flatten the spines
And ruin our books, dear?

Nocturnal Squeak

*eep-squeak*
Hamster's on his wheel.

*squeak-squeal*
The wheel squeals.

*squeal-eep*
All I want is sleep.

Early Morning Visitor

We discovered an early morning visitor
Wiggling through our sheets.
All around our bed,
Up and over our feet.

Our visitor wasn't very quiet -
There was a lot of giggling.
Our visitor wasn't very peaceful -
There was a lot of jiggling.

We scooped up our wiggly, giggly, jiggly visitor
And gave her a sleepy hug and kiss.
Our early morning visitor
Brought us early morning bliss.

My Dog is Afraid of the Rain

My dog is afraid of the rain.
At the back door she does balk.
Over the threshold she will not budge -
Despite our reassuring talk.

Fine misty sprinkles
Or a heavy downpour -
It just doesn't matter,
My dog will not go out the door!

Cloud Cover

The clouds
drift
in front
of
the sun
masking it,
concealing it,
dimming its shine.

The day
is
draped
in
a veil
but
I
feel
fine.

Baby Faces

Baby makes funny fish lips
While splish-splashing in the pool.

Baby has a sad pouty frown
When she gets too cool.

Baby has a toothless grin
When it's time for food.

Baby's face changes and morphs
Depending on her mood.

Stinky Roadkill

There's a skunk in the street -
He does not smell sweet.

There's a skunk in the road -
He suffered the same fate as toad.

There's a skunk in the lane -
He left a bit of a stain.

There's a skunk on the avenue -
A sight I wish I did not view.

Family Roadtrip

How much longer?
Are we almost there?
I have to go to the bathroom...
Stop touching my hair!

I'm starving...
I know we just ate.
She won't stop looking at me.
We're driving so late.

I want to watch a movie,
I want to play a game -
We came to see a hole in the ground?
This trip is totally lame.

Time to Think

I'm on Time-Out
To give me "time to think".
This consequence
Totally stinks.

Well, my tummy does hurt
And Mom does need a break -
You should have seen her face
When she found the hole in the cake.

Hairy Pottery

I make pottery
All day without a care.
I daydreamed one day,
What if clay had hair?

Would I braid a bowl?
Or curl a cup?
Would I plait a plate?
Or...I don't know, I give up.

It's probably for the best
That clay does not have hair,
Eating off a hairy plate
Would be a total nightmare!

PreBedtime Nap

It is
finally
quiet.

I'm
by myself,
- alone -
for the moment.

I
savor
the silence,
the peace,
the stillness.

I
savor
it so much
I
nod off
on
the couch.

Then
I
feel
a hand
on my arm
- shaking me -

"Wake up and go to bed."

My
pre-bedtime nap
is
interrupted
by
an oxymoronic statement.

*Yawn*

Always the third Sunday in July.

Personality Change

How
can
a dog
who can be
so sweet,
so gentle,
and
so funny
go
totally ballistic
- yipping
and
yelping,
screeching
and
scratching,
yapping
and
snapping -
when
she sees a
furry
little
bunny?

So Many Books, So Little Time

I read when I wake up,
Before and after my chores.
I read when I eat
And while I shop at the store.

I read instead of playing,
Or watching TV.
I read instead of taking a bath,
Or babysitting Baby.

I read because I want to,
I read because I have to.
Books, books, books I must read
All else I bid adieu.

Midnight Trip to the Bathroom

The sticky web
Stretched and ebbed
When I lifted the lid.

I went to sit
And had a fit -
My bottom was snared.

I popped up fast
Completely aghast -
Was the spider near my rear?

From this midnight trip
I learned this tip:
Illuminate the loo to go poo.

Owl in the Courtyard

The weather was foul
When we saw an owl
Outside upon a light.

He stood watching us
While we excitedly fussed -
It wasn't even night!

With wide amber eyes
Looking so calm and wise
Mr. Owl kept us in his sight.

His picture we took
While he impassively looked -
It seemed nothing gave him a fright.

Next morning the light was bare
Our feathered visitor no longer there -
In the night Mr. Owl took flight.

Daddy's Driving

The light turns green
Daddy go, go, goes

The light turns yellow
Daddy slow, slow, slows

The light turns red
Daddy stop, stop, stops

But sometimes...

The light turns green
Daddy go, go, goes

The light turns yellow
Daddy speeds up, up, up

The light turns red
Daddy zooms while looking for a cop, cop, cop

Tenacity

Hope keeps me afloat
When I feel like I am sinking.

Optimism is the only option
When I feel like I can't go on.

Trust is a must
When I feel like giving up.

My dreams will come true
When I continue to believe.

Tenacity is all I have
And it will see me through.

After a Storm

After a storm
My nerves are worn

After a storm
Our umbrella is torn

After a storm
Insects swarm

After a storm
I feel forlorn

After a storm
I realize it's not so warm

After a storm
Fluffy clouds form

After a storm
A new day is born

Mom's a Baseball Fan

Mom had a crazy idea
To go to a baseball game.
I went along with the plan,
But to me baseball's lame.

I watched everything around me
Except the players on the field.
I did my best to pass the time -
I was so bored I nearly keeled.

Mom on the other hand
Liked to yell, whistle, and scream.
She was really quite embarrassing,
But Mom loves her team.

Toads in the Road

There are toads in the road
Quick - swerve around 'em

There are toads in the road
Splat - oh no, our tire found 'em

Doggie Dental Care

Poochy, open wide,
I need to see inside
To brush your pearly whites.

Stop licking the tooth paste,
I know you like the taste -
Holding you down takes all my might.

There, your teeth are clean,
Your breath pristine,
But next time please don't bite!

Keyboard Creativity

tap tap tapity tap tap

I
tap out
letters
one by one
until
they form
words,
phrases,
sentences,
poems.

I
tap out
my thoughts,
my imagination,
through
my hands,
my fingertips
for you,
my
reader.

Enjoy.

As American As Apple Pie

Sparklers glow
Fast and slow

Rockets boom
Eclipse the moon

Fireworks sputter
Hiss and shutter

Red, white and blue
It's what we do

On the 4th of July -
As American as apple pie.

Nature's Fireworks

I
lie awake
watching
the flash
and
flickers
of
lightning
illuminating
my room
in
irregular intervals.

I
count
1...2...3...

CRACK!  BOOM!  CRASH!

Thunder
reverberates
through the cloudburst -
rolling through the night
rolling through my windowpanes
rolling through my heart.

The
incessant
rumbles of thunder
match the
boom-boom-boom
thumping
of my
heart.

I
pray
that each
flash and boom
is
the last...
the finale.

Eventually
the storm
recedes
and
I find
peace and sleep.

Respect the Desert

The desert
can be
a place of
breathtaking beauty,
vibrant color,
unique wildlife.

But
it can also be
a place of
danger,
desolation,
violence.

Cacti spikes can
poke,
stab,
hook their barbs
into
the careless.

Scorpions can
puncture,
poison,
and sometime paralyze
the inattentive.

Rattlesnakes can
strike
with a bite
anything that treads
too near.

Extreme temperatures can
scorch,
dehydrate,
blister,
the unprotected.

Be
ever vigilant
in the
desert.

Behold
the beauty,
but
heed
the danger.

Respect the desert.

Uninvited Guest

An uninvited guest
Decided to make a nest
Right above our door.

The noise we did not mind,
The feathered soul was so kind -
It was the mess we wanted no more.

We swept her debris away,
Each and every day,
As Mama Bird sat upon her egg.

One day "peep-peeping" could be heard,
Coming from a brand new bird,
Standing on wobbly legs.

Days and days went by,
The baby bird learned to fly -
Then Mama Bird decided to soar.

We no longer have a guest
Living in a nest
Right above our door.
