Pelican Fishing

The
Brown Pelicans
glide
effortlessly
through the salty air.

They
flap their wings
in intervals
flap-flap
float
flap-flap
float
keeping
their place
in the perfect
V-formation
as
they hug
the contours
of
the jagged
rocky
coastline.

Abruptly
the lead Pelican
decides
they have arrived,
they have found the perfect spot
to
fish.

The rest of the
Brown Pelicans
shift
from a glide
to
a controlled dive
plunging themselves
into
the churning
blue-green ocean
hoping
for
a smackerel of mackerel.
